Martin trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
He is a forceful stage actor who has portrayed a wide range of historical figures – Voltaire, Hume, Rousseau, Robert Louis Stevenson and Robert Burns – with aplomb. Amongst his many credits are THE INVISIBLE HAND (Edinburgh Festival), ANNVILLE (Citizens, Glasgow), TOSCA (Scottish Opera) and as the wheelchair bound Busby in Gaby Dellal’s STITCHERS.
He produced and starred in the highly acclaimed MCLUCKIE'S LINE, a one man tour – de – force which he performed throughout Scotland.
Television and Film credits include STILL GAME, RAB C NESBITT, DEAR GREEN PLACE, RIVER CITY, GARY : TANK COMMANDER and FATHER BROWN.
Martin appeared in CLOUD ATLAS with Tom Hanks and Jim Broadbent, following which he played himself in the documentary MARTY GOES TO HOLLYWOOD, which won him a New Talent BAFTA in 2015.
